Rwanda – Grace Period Extended

On January 31, 2020, the Rwanda Development Board issued a notice stipulating that according to law no. 31/2009 the owners of trademarks filed before December 14, 2009 and who have not renewed its trademarks until December 14, 2019 will now be able to count on another 10 months of grace period. Therefore, the deadline to renew the trademarks filed before December 14, 2009 ends on 13 October 2020.

Innovation & IP Forum and Awards

Inventa International attended the "Innovation & IP Forum and Awards", last January 28, in Paris. The event is dedicated to international challenges in matters related to intellectual property, involving patents, trademarks, IP litigation and other related rights, organized annually by the Leaders League.

Inventa International supports ANJAP’s Conference ‘The New CPI 2018’

ANJAP’s Commission for Intellectual Property and New Technologies organized the Conference 'The New CPI 2018', which took place in the Judicial Police auditorium in Lisbon.

This initiative had the purpose to provide trainee’s and young lawyers with a better knowledge of the new Portuguese Industrial Property Code, that came into force in July this year.

Vítor Palmela Fidalgo was one of the speakers at this Conference, where he spoke about some specifics concerning the new legal frame for Trademarks.

Patent Procedure at Ethiopian IP Office and the payment of the search and examination fee

The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office (EIPO) has changed the procedure regarding patent search and examination fee, based on Article 28 (2) of the Inventions, Minor Inventions & Industrial Design Regulation Number 12/1997.

According to this new procedure, implemented at the end of the last year, an applicant should pay search and substantive examination fee of USD 200 after filing an application. Although there is no specific period for attending this payment, the EIPO recommends that this should be done as soon as possible.

Cape Verde IGQPI has a new President

Ana Paula Spencer has been nominated for the presidency of Cape Verde’s IGQPI - Quality Management and Intellectual Property Office, replacing the former president, engineer Abraão Lopes.

The engineer Joana Flor will assume the role of Executive Administrator, thus assisting the new president to the Board of Direction of the IGQPI. Created in 2010, the IGQPI integrates both, the SNQC - National Quality System of Cape Verde and the SNPI - National System of Protection of Intellectual Property.

Portugal has updated the official fees for Intellectual Property services

The Portuguese Industrial Property Office (INPI) has announced an update to the official fees concerning all Intellectual Property (IP) procedures.

This update applies to Trademarks, Patents, Appellation of Origin or Geographical Indication, Industrial Models and Designs and, as well as to other generic fees.

Benguela’s International Business Fair, Angola

Benguela’s International Business Fair is gaining notoriety as one of the most important economic encounters in Angola, being recognized as the major economic event in the country’s south area.

Inventa International was in this initiative where it presented to the local entrepreneurs the available options to protect their Intellectual Property assets. Most of the questions raised during the conversations were related to how register for a trademark in Angola.

Among the participants was with Adão Correia de Almeida – Minister for the Territory Administration and Reform of the State of Angola, with whom Vera Albino who was representing Inventa International had the chance to catch up.
