Overview

Benin administers intellectual property rights covering trademarks, patents, and industrial designs. Although local IP matters are under the general purview of national authorities, Benin is a member state of the Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI). Consequently, IP protection is managed regionally through OAPI procedures, but rights remain enforceable within Benin as part of the unified OAPI framework.

Despite being part of a regional system, Benin maintains its own infrastructure for economic growth and industrial development, making IP protection an important consideration for both local and foreign applicants.
